Tarot cards are a powerful tool for self-reflection, clarity and personal growth. However, as a Chicago Tarot Card Reader, I've found that the ability of tarot to provide entertainment at a big event or party is largely misunderstood. I'm Mister Vibe and I regularly receive inquiries from Chicago area corporate events, trade shows, client appreciation functions, birthday parties and other social gatherings that want tarot card readings. While intrigued by tarot, these folks haven't considered the fact that these readings are an individual 1-on-1 process. This severely limits the number of guests who can experience them.
If performed rapid-fire, one after the other, only about 6 to 7 quick authentic tarot readings can be done in an hour due to the shuffling, selecting and conversation involved. (And that's if there's no lag time between them, unlikely at a party.) Sign up sheets are useless because people wander away.
Some readers do unsatisfying "one card readings" using only 22 of the 78 card deck which trivialize tarot and are as insubstantial as fortune cookies or flipping a coin. It's stupid. Why bother? The point of tarot readings is to ascertain meaning and these cram jobs are meaningless.
I'm telling it like it is to help you avoid disappointed and disgruntled guests at events larger than a small house party. Because of their novelty, the demand for readings is always OVERWHELMING and it's impossible for tarot to meet it. You won't see photos of me doing tarot readings at big gatherings because I honestly discourage them.

Besides there being confusion about tarot's suitability as entertainment at larger events, there's confusion about tarot created by magicians known as mentalists, mind readers or mystery entertainers (to avoid the stigma of being a magician) who use tarot to appear to have supernatural "powers."
Magician/mentalists love the esoteric imagery of tarot because it helps them avoid the close association playing cards have to magic tricks. Some will age their cards with tea and shoe polish to give them a old spooky look.
Magician/mentalists will merely learn some of the terminology used by tarot card readers, get a pack of tarot cards and then BS their way through a reading, taking pride in their deception.
Being too lazy to learn anything about tarot other than using it as a cover for a trick, they'll rationalize their ignorance as being their own "special approach" to avoid being called out.
Among their tricks is secretly marking the backs of the cards so they always know what they are face down. This allows the magician to "pick up on vibrations" and predict what cards are chosen or maneuver the direction of the reading. Magician/mentalists either do the marking themselves or buy marked tarot decks from online sellers like Artisan Tarot. Those who can afford it may use tarot cards with tiny computer chips connected to miniature antennas in them to create the illusion of having mental super powers.
Along with marked cards, there are countless slight-of-hand manipulations magicians can perform to influence the outcome of a reading. Magicians can't trust fate and leave the cards up to chance. They hate uncertainty and must insure a fail safe "ta da" finale.
The bottom line is, if you're getting a tarot reading from a magician, mentalist, mind reader or mystery entertainer, you are most likely being suckered for their own amusement.
I am NOT a magician and have never been one. My tarot readings are about guidance and possibilities, not predictions. Predictions can disempower you by planting seeds through suggestion that can grow into self-fulfilling prophecies, blinding you to future options. Without any trickery, I'm always amazed that the appropriate cards always turn up.
